When Pain Makes You Forget Who You Are

Self‑reflection isn’t loud. It’s the quiet moments when you pause, breathe, and let the truth of who you’re becoming rise to the surface. Beautiful Chaos is built on these small shifts — the ones that change your life in ways you don’t notice until you finally feel lighter. #BeautifulChaos #SelfReflection #HealingJourney #InnerPeace #AngelPrince

A Beautiful Chaos Reflection by Angel Prince

There are moments in life when you look back at something you wrote years ago and feel your spirit tug; not out of sadness, but out of recognition. I recently found a note I wrote seven years ago, and reading it felt like opening a time capsule from a version of myself who was awake, aligned, and listening closely to God.

Somewhere between then and now, I lost my way. I forgot what God whispered to me. I let the dark places of others distort my beliefs. I let their pain tear at my spirit until I almost lost all of me.

But God!!

As I read my own words from 2012 — four years after my mother passed — I felt joy rise in my chest. I felt clarity. I felt a gentle reminder that I have always had the tools to survive, the heart to endure, and the belief that everything in life is divinely purposeful. Even the storms.

Pain can blind you. Trauma can make you forget the victories you’ve already lived through. It can make you forget who you are — and whose you are.

And I can say honestly: I forgot.

But finding that note reminded me of a milestone I reached long before life tried to break me. In 2010, I began learning what unconditional love truly meant — starting with loving and accepting myself. Not the version shaped by the world, but the woman God created.

Back then, awakening felt easier. I was surrounded by familiar faces, familiar places, and environments filled with love. Florida brought different tests — heavier ones. I faced some of my biggest spiritual challenges here.

Seeing past the darkness in others and still choosing kindness was a test of my growth. Feeding Judas is never easy, but it revealed how much my heart had matured. Still, I realized my prayer life needed to deepen. What I was facing was too heavy to carry alone.

I was breaking in a loveless environment. I didn’t know whether my impulsive decision to leave my hometown, filled with family and friends, made things worse or whether the isolation on foreign soil simply peeled back more layers of the onion that needed healing.

Either way, God showed me something important: I had only scratched the surface.

There was more healing to do. More growing. More remembering.

And the best place to grow is always in a space filled with love, truth, and positive input.

Today, I’m grateful — deeply grateful — for the reminder. Grateful that God kept me through the process. Grateful that He sharpened my vision. Grateful that He shifted my mindset into a healthier place.

Sometimes the most powerful awakening is simply remembering who you were before pain tried to rewrite your identity.

Heal the inside to improve your outside.
